He offers a wealth of hilarious theatre anecdotes, true and almost true, which add even more colour to the motley of the professional journeyman actor. He puts the spotlight on the mystery behind the mystique, the sweat beneath the greasepaint and the excitement to be found in the second oldest trade in the world.  Ticket Prices: £8 (£5) Box Office Tel 01334 475000 www.byretheatre.org.uk

Sherlock Holmes...The Death and the Life
The Byre Theatre St Andrews - AB Paterson Auditorium

In this wryly humorous tale, of murder, mystery & the occult.....’the world's greatest detective refuses to leave the stage!’ ‘A fantasy based upon a fiction’, finds Conan Doyle tiring of his ‘intolerably arrogant Sherlock Holmes’, and inventing the malevolent Moriarty, to dispose of him. But Doyle's dangerous strategy, combined with his passion for raising the spirits of the dead, has rather more surreal and dramatic consequences than he bargains for!
After his international success in ‘Sherlock Holmes.... the last act!’ Roger Llewellyn returns in this spine tingling new play, written by David Stuart Davies, and directed by Gareth Armstrong with original music by Simon Slater.   'An actor completely in charge of his material, his stage and his own artistry, the vocally impeccable Roger Llewellyn achieves an almost old-fashioned, and certainly rare, symmetry of excellence and entertainment' - The Irish Times
'In these elegant hands, this is Holmes as you've always imagined him - but with a cutting sense of humour'. - Sunday Express  Ticket Prices: £15 (£13) Box Office Tel 01334 475000 www.byretheatre.org.uk

The Weir by Conor McPherson

In a small bar in rural Ireland, four men vie for the attention of Valerie, a pretty young woman from Dublin who has just rented an old house in the area. After a few drinks, they tell stories of spooky local folklore. But Valerie’s tale, of why she left Dublin, is melancholy and true – and far more shocking than anything made up...  One of the most praised and successful plays of the last 15 years, The Weir uncovers moving themes of loss, abandonment, loneliness and regret for the road not taken.  Byre@ Anstruther Town Hall Ticket Prices: £13 (£10/£8) Box Office Tel 01334 475000 www.byretheatre.org.uk

The Chooky Brae - by D. C. Jackson Directed by Kenny Miller Designed by Neil Haynes
The Byre Theatre St Andrews - AB Paterson Auditorium
As funny as The Wall, as moving as The Ducky - the final chapter of The Stewarton trilogy. The Chooky Brae completes Norma, Rab and Barry’s stories about growing up in small town Scotland - a story about duty, devotion and enduring love.
It’s Christmas day in Stewarton and Irene Gordon’s struggling to get in the festive spirit. Her 18 year old daughter Norma’s just had a baby, her ex-husband Gordon’s just had a stroke and her eldest Barry’s having a break down. Even the Dr Who Christmas special is disappointing. If this was a wonderful life she would receive some angelic intervention - instead she gets Rab McGuire, and an escaped chicken that won’t be stuffed. A new comedy about love, duty and free range fowl.  Ticket Prices: £15 (£13/£10) Box Office Tel 01334 475000 www.byretheatre.org.uk

Wednesday 29th September 7.30pm
A Promised Land
The Byre Theatre St Andrews - AB Paterson Auditorium
A Promised Land is a story of freedom and captivity, loyalty and love, political coercion and personal self-sacrifice. It revolves around the true story of Dumfriesshire born Jane Haining , ‘the Scottish Schindler’, who saved many Jewish children from the fate she was to suffer herself in the gas chambers of Auschwitz.  As the play opens, Rivka Feldman, a Holocaust survivor, and friend of Jane’s, has entered post-war Scotland illegally, armed with a gun. Not without irony or humour, this is a play about hope and reconciliation which raises many issues of relevance today in a challenging way through a controversial story.  Premiered at the Scottish Storytelling Centre during the 2009 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, this new play casts a spotlight on the life of the Church of Scotland missionary Jane Haining, sometimes referred to as “The Scottish Schindler”. The play breaks fresh ground in our understanding of Jane’s work with Jewish children, mostly orphans, in Budapest and her subsequent murder in Auschwitz. Jane is the only Scot recognised as 'Righteous Among Nations' at Yad Vashem the Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem. Since its first performance, the British government has honoured Jane Haining posthumously with a new British Heroes of the Holocaust award. Ticket Prices: £15 (£13/£10) Box Office Tel 01334 475000 www.byretheatre.org.uk
