String Driven Thing
The Inn at Lathones, Largoward, St Andrews KY9 1JE
The Thing were in Charisma's famous 70's stable, with Genesis, Lindisfarne and Van Der Graaf Generator. Fronted by Chris & Pauline Adams, and featuring virtuoso violinist Graham Smith, they made three cult albums, culminating in 'The Machine That Cried', now accepted as one of the lost classics of the underground era. But commercial success proved elusive, and when Charisma began to exert editorial control, the Adamses quit and returned to their native Glasgow. There were sporadic reunions in the 90's, [see '$uicide Live in Berlin']. while Chris' solo album ['The Damage'] resurfaced on the esoteric Ozit label. Then in 2007 came 'Moments of Truth', the first studio album in 30 years. Now comes another release, under the shortened name of String Driven. John Otway
The Inn at Lathones Largoward, St Andrews KY9 1JE
John Otway, (born October 2, 1952, in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England) is a self-confessed unsuccessful singer songwriter, who built a large cult audience through unrelenting touring, a surreal sense of humour and a winning underdog personality. Arriving on the back of punk rock and a gymnastic performance on The Old Grey Whistle Test, his first single, the half-spoken love song “Really Free” ‘soared’ to 27 in the UK chart.
Despite that his live audience remained loyal, due to Otway’s manic energy and the probability of physical injury during renditions of songs such as “Headbutts”. His autobiography (subtitled “Rock and Roll’s greatest failure”) was a study in self-deprecation, and his touring continued to sustain him. By 1993 he could draw 2,500 fans to a gig in London and in 1998 4,000 celebrated his birthday with him at the Royal Albert Hall, coinciding with the release of Premature Adulation, his first album of new material for over 10 years. The Rape of Lucrece
The Byre Theatre of St Andrews

Gerard Logan stars in the first ever stage adaptation of William Shakespeare’s The Rape of Lucrece - Directed by Gareth Armstrong
Following a 5-Star winning run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and sell-out performances in London, Olivier award nominee and RSC actor Gerard Logan now brings his astonishing solo performance of Shakespeare's brilliant, brutal narrative poem, giving an account of the terrible crime of rape and its dreadful consequences, to St Andrews.
As ever, though, Shakespeare goes beyond the obvious, following the ramifications of the crime wherever they take him, shining a light on a band of human-behaviour encompassing the bestial and the beautiful.
